About us

Michael & Gijs

My name is Gijs de Waard and together with my husband Michael Feij we own the kennel Echos of Fire.

We are hobby breeders who breed according to the breed standard of the FCI and the regulations of the Association of Breeders and Lovers of Smooth-Haired Miniature Pinschers and related breeds. Our kennel is located in the wooded Soesterberg (Netherlands). We are fortunate that enough shows are organized in the Netherlands every year where I can proudly present my dogs. In addition, I have absolutely no problem traveling for a show.

I (Gijs) came into contact with Dwarf Pinschers 25 years ago. My parents thought this was a nice breed and the strength and passion of this breed have always stayed with me. Later, my husband and I acquired our first male, Bear, in 2018. We started showing with Beer and thanks to the many people around me I was able to learn a lot about both this beautiful breed and the show world. In particular, I would like to mention my “mentor” Bianca Smits.

Travel

Traveling without our dogs does not suit us; they are a full part of our lives. Already in Beer's first years he went to work every day and traveled with us through various countries, including an adventurous journey through the nature of Norway.

Dax also became familiar with travel at an early age. He came to the Netherlands by plane from Finland and shortly afterwards went with us to Germany. Together with Dax and Fina, we have now discovered a large part of Europe, including Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, England and France.

Our dogs adapt effortlessly to new environments, confirming that this breed is excellent for traveling. Traveling with our dogs strengthens our bond and brings unforgettable memories. With these whiners we look forward to discovering much more of the world together.

Origin of the kennel

As of January 2023, the kennel Echos of Fire exists. Something we never expected to do. Now we can hardly wait to welcome the first litter. In 2022, we registered the name of the kennel with the FCI and the Raad van Beheer (kennel club Nederland). Now it is quite difficult to start a kennel without females, but this is a conscious choice on our part. It is expected that we will only welcome our first litter in a few years with a bitch in co-parenting. Until then, we want to present our dogs under our own name and enter into great collaborations with other breeders and lovers of Dwarf Pinchers.

Shows

Since the end of 2018, we have been actively showing our dogs at home and abroad. We initially did this with Beer and nowadays with our other dogs. Beer achieved wonderful results at shows up to the age of 27 months. After that, the corona pandemic also entered the Netherlands and showing became temporarily impossible.

After this period we walked a few more shows with Beer, but his passion for showing had clearly diminished. Despite his great results, we have decided to further reduce showing with Beer. This decision was made partly because of the negative results on his health examinations and the fact that he no longer always appreciates the crowds of shows. Beer visibly enjoys the peace and nature more during our shared trips.

We can regularly be seen at various exhibitions with our other dogs, with great results. In 2023, no fewer than ten new titles were won within our kennel. In particular the Clubwinner 2023 and the first International Youth Championship for the Miniature Pinscher in the Netherlands, both of which have been won within our kennel.

About 20 shows were planned for 2024, after which we proudly continued to build our kennel in 2025 and 2026, with new successes and future plans.

In 2026 we will be at a special point in our kennel history. This year we have planned our first litter and we look back with pride on a number of beautiful and successful show years. In this period, our dogs have achieved impressive results, including a Winner or Winners title three times, club titles and many other national and international titles.

In addition, our dogs have achieved great places of honor at international shows, including Best in Show 2 and Best in Show 3. Both dogs have also been placed at the World Dog Show 2025, a highlight that we look back on with great pride

Our dogs at home

Of course, we're not always traveling and at shows. Something we really enjoy is being at home together and relaxing on the couch with our dogs. They are also real house dogs that like to be with us and also like to hang out on the couch, because that is allowed with us. We stick very much to the rhythm of the dogs. The moments when we go for a walk with them, the feeding moments one day, the playing moments one day are actually all fairly fixed, wherever we are. We try to maintain the strongest possible rhythm here. Dogs also need this and gives them peace of mind. This way they always know what to expect. We also try to stick to this rhythm during trips, which provides a certain form of stability, despite the fact that the environment sometimes changes.

Rostelly's Angels

Rostelley's Angels Driven by Love was proudly bred by Bianca Smits. Bianca breeds 1 to 2 litters per year and does this with so much love that it is almost contagious. After she helped us with Beer, we stayed in touch for a long time. It's always nice to have someone at hand who answers your questions every now and then. Thanks to our unique collaboration, we were also able to import Aurra Sing Meet Rostelleys New Dream from Finland. If you want to know more about Rostelley's Angels and whether they will soon have a litter, here is the link to their website.

We are very grateful to Bianca for entrusting to us Rostelley's Angels Driven by Love (Beer) & Aurra Sing Meet Rostelleys New Dream (Dax).
